A lot of patches that belonged to a Third Class Petty Officer with Mobile Construction Battalion 5 (MCB 5). The long red stripe indicates four years of service and the 'E' patch indicates excellency in gunnery.
The USS Penobscot was laid down in 1944 and exited service in 1971.
MCB-5 served in Vietnam for the entire duration of US involvement during the war (1965-1972).
