A beautiful example of a mid-century crash helmet. It has signs of genuine wear and the Royal Enfield sticker attached to the front adds a great layer of character and personalisation.
Made by Feridax in Birmingham, England circa 1940s/1950s. Shown in the final two images are original advertisement posters from the period.
The St. Christopher helmet was promoted formally as a motorcycle helmet, however there are accounts of this helmet being worn by racecar drivers, notably, Pip Henson, a Midget Car Racer. There is another known example of this helmet that came from the estate of F-1 Racer Jim Clark, but it is unclear whether he wore this helmet professionally or for leisure.
The sponge-padded cotton canvas suspension system is adjustable with a drawstring that surrounds the leather sweatband and ear/neck protector. A rubber trim surrounds the circumference of the fibreglass shell.
Size 6 7/8 (Small)
The helmet is complete with all original fittings. The leather parts are in excellent condition for their age and all are supple and strong. All the metal fixtures are present and have some light cosmetic surface rust/patina as seen. The faux leather lining inside the earcups displays some deterioration which is to be expected from an article of this age and is not particularly visible when displayed.
