Circa. 1950s
A beautiful Japanese formal shirt with striking attention to detail and fine craftsmanship. Made for and sold by Shirokiya, a well-known high-end Japanese department store.
Made with a superb Japanese 100% cotton poplin cloth, displaying buttons made entirely with natural mother-of-pearl shell.
This shirt came as part of a grouping from a US Army soldier serving in Yokohama, Japan. It was found still folded and stored in a bag from the "Navy Exchange, Yokohama Laundry and Dry Cleaning Service".
The shirt has some clear signs of wear and distressing. Please study the photos carefully. There are repairs, staining and some very small holes. It displays immense character and offers a timeless insight into fine, true vintage tailoring.
