An original, wartime Tigerstripe boonie hat made circa. 1960s.
A typical CISO-procured boonie made in Okinawa, Japan. It features a black linen lining, a single seam on the rear of the circumference of the crown, and two small painted steel eyelets on either side. Uniquely to the specifications of this model, the metal eyelets do not perforate the black lining. The pattern is referred to by collectors as Classic/Okinawa or John Wayne Dense (JWD) by Johnson's nomenclature. These boonies were an issued item and were worn by MACV-SOG & other Special Forces units, LRRPs, CIDG forces, etc.
It has been modified by the original owner, adding a cigarette pack pocket on the crown. Made with original fabric, the pocket was cut off a pair of tigerstripe trousers and stitched on with 100% cotton vegetable-dyed thread.
In excellent condition showing light signs of real wear. There is a small area of damage on the lining as shown
Approx. size US 7 - EU 56 (Medium)
