Original US Military issue
100% cotton non-ripstop poplin
A superb example of a 1st pattern Tropical Combat Coat with wartime Special Forces insignia. A 1st pattern jacket can be identified by its exposed buttons, epaulettes, waist adjustment tabs on the rear, and gas flap under the main closure.
The coat displays all original full colour US-made insignia and a Vietnamese-made name tape. The Special Forces SSI, Senior Jump Wings, and US Army branch tape have been darkened to reduce visibility.
All of the insignia have been replaced at some point - It is unclear whether this was period work or more recent. The reverse of each patch has pinching to the fabric, which indicates they have been applied for a long time. The currently applied Senior Parachutist Badge appears to have replaced a Basic Parachutist Badge, which was worn prior. It was not unusual for soldiers to update their awards.
Excellent condition with light signs of wear - All buttons, fittings and fixtures are present. The contract label is present but faded. There is a small break in the fabric over the left breast pocket. There is some other light sporadic staining & discolouration as seen.
