Circa Vietnam War - 1960s
A stunning example of the ubiquitous poncho liner tour jacket. These were among the quintessential must-have souvenirs for servicemen serving in Southeast Asia. This jacket is adorned with beautiful chain-stitched embroidery depicting dragon heads, a tiger, and the country of Vietnam on the back, showing the north/south divide.
The embroidered text reads "When I die I'll go to to heaven because I've spent my time in hell". "Chu Lai", "69", and "70" describe the region where the jacket was purchased and the original owner's years spent in-country (1969-1970). The text surrounding the map of Vietnam show geographical locations such as "Saigon", "Hue", etc.
Very good condition showing signs of real use - The poncho liner shell maintains most of its quilting, but some of the stitching has come away. The zip has been replaced with a YKK brand zip at some point down the line. The pink silk lining displays some wear, damage and staining as shown, but this does not particularly affect the aesthetic or use of the jacket.
