A superb Officer's Summer Service Dress Jacket worn by a Colonel with the US Army 1st Cavalry Division.
After WW2, officers continued to wear the summer service uniform well into the 1950s and early 1960s despite regulation changes, as enforcement was relaxed and many career officers retained durable, familiar garments. Its use persisted for garrison, staff, and warm-weather duties throughout the occupation, Korean War, and early Vietnam War periods before being gradually phased out by newer uniform patterns.
Worn by a decorated career cavalryman who entered service during the Second World War and saw extensive combat in the Pacific Theatre, participating in four campaigns and the liberation of the Philippines, followed by postwar occupation duty in Japan. He continued his career into the Korean War, serving in two campaigns and earning the United Nations and Korean Service Medals, before remaining on active duty through the post-Korea period and rising to the rank of colonel. His later service included senior command or staff responsibilities, reflected by the award of the Legion of Merit and Army Commendation Medal, and service with distinguished units recognised by a Presidential Unit Citation.
