70s/80s Vintage Custom Tailor-Made Denison Smock - X-Large

A highly unusual, entirely custom-made smock, constructed from genuine British military Denison camouflage fabric, most likely repurposed from sleeping bags. It has some extraordinary features, including a zip-detachable hood, three large internal game-style pockets, two large pockets on the lower back, and two concealed zipped pockets, one on either breast, alongside many of the usual features such as four large pockets, a beaver tail and a full-length zip. It is constructed using a combination of machine and hand stitching. The zips are by Scovill and Opti, while many of the snap fasteners are made by Newey.

The design falls somewhere between a Denison and a windproof smock, with numerous modifications. It has clearly been heavily worn, with sporadic repairs in several places. Despite discussions with several other prolific collectors of British uniforms and equipment, the exact origin of this piece remains unknown. Nevertheless, it is a really rather lovely item. An anomalous, intriguing and truly unique one-of-a-kind jacket.
