Genuine Military issue
Circa. 1970s, these striking camo suits were originally issued to the Italian Army's Folgore (Lightning) Brigade. One of three light infantry brigades of the Italian Army specializing in parachute operations.
One of Italy’s most elite military units, with a distinguished history dating back to World War II, the Folgore Brigade was originally formed in 1941 as the 185th Paratroopers Division. The unit earned a legendary reputation during the Second Battle of El Alamein in 1942, where it fought against overwhelming British forces in North Africa. After the war, the brigade was disbanded but later reconstituted as part of the Italian Army’s effort to modernize and restructure during the Cold War.
During the 1970s, Italy was refining its military doctrine to address both conventional threats from the Warsaw Pact and emerging challenges such as international terrorism and internal unrest. The Folgore Brigade was primarily tasked with rapid deployment and airborne assault missions, reflecting NATO’s strategy of flexible response.
