Original Vietnam War era patch made in Japan circa. 1960s

Japan was a popular R&R destination for US Military personnel serving in Vietnam. A number of well-known and documented patch shops provided insignia for US servicemen who wore them in-country when they returned to theatre.

The USS Yorktown saw deployment to Vietnam between 1964 -1968 during which time she conducted a number of 'Anti-Submarine Warfare' operations in the South China Sea. Between tours, the Yorktown travelled to and from Japanese harbours.

In addition to her service during the Vietnam War, the Yorktown was notably the ship that recovered the crew of the Apollo 8 mission on 27 December 1968.

This patch is full colour, fully embroidered with a cut edge and a white cloth backing.
