Genuine US Military issue
Circa 1960s
A customised, standard-issue boonie hat made from OG-107 ripstop cotton poplin, displaying an originally applied USARV patch and period embroidery reading “BROTHER GIBBS” (the original owner’s name) and “NORTH CAROLINA”, referencing his home state. The use of “Brother” as a self-identifier suggests Gibbs was likely an African American serviceman, aligning with common slang and cultural expression among black troops serving in Vietnam.
